ISO 19139

ISO/TS 19139:2007 defines Geographic MetaData XML (gmd) encoding, an XML Schema implementation derived from ISO 19115.

USGIN Metadata Wizard released

The USGIN Metadata Wizard is a metadata-format agnostic metadata creation web-tool that exports its generic, minimum metadata model into various metadata formats and standards such FGDC XML, and ISO 19139 XML files. The goal of the tool is to make new metadata creation as simple as possible while still supporting several metadata standards. Give it a try at http://mw.usgin.org

USGIN Catalog and Data Services website released

The USGIN Catalog and Data Services website (http://catalog.usgin.org) hosts several geospatial metadata catalog (CSW) and geospatial data services (WMS, WFS, WCS) implementations and clients. Although the site functions as a showcase of USGIN service implementations, the Catalog Service for the Web service (CSW - http://catalog.usgin.org/geonetwork/srv/en/csw) is a primary metadata node for the U.S. Geospatial Information Network.

USGIN Document Repository released

The USGIN Document Repository is an effort to create a document archiving, management, and discovery system that fulfills minimum USGIN ISO 19139 metadata requirements. The Drupal CMS based site is under active development and has the following goals and requirements:

  • Upload files that have not been put on the web yet and generate metadata for them
  • Add links to resources that are already on the web and generate metadata for them
  • Automatically generate ISO 19139 dataset metadata XML records
  • Offer an as easy-as-possible way to enter minimum ISO 19139 metadata
  • Use Search Engine Optimization to expose content to the web
  • Offer some nice way to search the repository
  • Offer a minimal but intuitive workflow for repository management
  • Find an easy way of submitting spatial extent coordinates
  • Remain flexible to adapt to new and changing metadata input and presentation needs

GeoNetwork configuration and development

Discussion on GeoNetwork setup, configuration, and development.

This group will focus upon GeoNetwork setup, configuration, and development. Any questions or comments are welcome!

Following are some resources that can help you learn about GeoNetwork:

GI-go GeoBrowser

GI-go is a graphical desktop client developed to easily demonstrate the capabilities of the GI-cat catalog service. User make distributed queries based on common search criteria (where, when, who, what) and gets metadata results from a variety of data sources. Data preview and download is also supported.

Distributed search on a variety of data sources:

  • WCS 1.0, 1.1
  • WMS 1.3.0, 1.1.1
  • WFS 1.0.0
  • CSW 2.0.2 Core, AP ISO 1.0, ebRIM/CIM, ebRIM/EO
  • THREDDS 1.0.1, NEW 1.0.2
  • Accessors for GeoNetwork (tested with versions 2.2.0 and 2.4.1) and deegree (tested with version 2.2) catalog services
  • OpenSearch accessor
  • GENESI RDF OpenSearch accessor
  • Download and visualization of XML metadata
  • CDI 1.04, 1.3
  • GI-cat 5.x, 6.x
  • GBIF

GI-cat

GI-cat is an implementation of distributed catalog services made by ESSI Lab:

  • Allows clients to discover and evaluate geoinformation resources over a federation of data sources;
  • Allows different clients to use the service, as it publishes different catalog interfaces.

A data provider can deploy his/her own GI-cat instance, grouping together disparate data sources, to accommodate his/her user needs.

Data sources:

  • OGC WCS 1.0, 1.1
  • OGC WMS 1.3.0, 1.1.1
  • OGC WFS 1.0.0
  • OGC CSW 2.0.2 Core, AP ISO 1.0, ebRIM/CIM, ebRIM/EO
  • THREDDS 1.0.1, 1.0.2
  • CDI 1.04, 1.3
  • GI-cat 5.x, 6.x
  • GBIF
  • GeoNetwork (versions 2.2.0 and 2.4.1) catalog service
  • deegree (tested with version 2.2) catalog service
  • OpenSearch accessor
  • GENESI DR OpenSearch accessor

USGIN ISO 19139 Profile

Summary:

USGIN profile for using ISO19139 xml schema for ISO 19115 and ISO 19119 spatial metadata. ISO 19115 is a metadata standard for spatial dataset and spatial dataset series. ISO 19119 is a metadata standard for spatial services. The USGIN profile for ISO 19139 is based on the North American Profile (NAP).

Introduction:

A key component of a distributed information network is a catalog system, a collection of resources that allow data and service providers to register resources, and data consumers to locate and use those resources. Currently, many online catalogs are web pages with collections of URLs for services, or services are discovered accidently or by word of mouth. The vision is to enable a web client (portal) to search across one or more metadata registries without having to configure the client individually for each of the registries that will be searched. Thus, metadata providers can focus on data development, without having to also develop web clients to enable search of that metadata.

ESRI ArcGIS Server

ArcGIS Server is ESRI's network- and webservice-centric GIS application suite. Among other, ArcGIS Server offers WMS, WFS, WFS-T, WCS, and KML service capability as well as web application SDKs for JavaScript, Flex, Silverlight, .Net, and Java.

ESRI ArcGIS Desktop GIS

ESRI's ArcGIS Desktop GIS application suit includes popular GIS applications such as ArcMap and ArcCatalog.
